This last Saturday (1/23/2010) the Harry Potter Fandom came together in a webcast to support “Helping Haiti Heal” to benefit “Partners in Health, a charitable organization that has been on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years and will remain in Haiti working to end poverty and bring about a healthier society long after the initial relief efforts have ended.

The webcast featured special apperances and performances from The HP Alliance, The Leaky Cauldron, PotterCast, MuggleNet, MuggleCast, Hogwarts Radio, FictionAlley, The Signal and TrueBloodNews, actors from "The Wire," and "Heroes"; wizard rock from Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, The Remus Lupins, Ministry of Magic, Lauren Fairweather, and The Whomping Willows.

You can listen to the recorded webcast at this link:  http://www.thehpalliance.org/haiti/

One of the really cool things about this fund raiser is that over 200 prizes have been donated.  Including a full set of Harry Potter books signed and donated by J.K. Rowling.  A guitar owned and signed by Tom Felton (Draco) and a ton of other fan related stuff plus stuff from other fandom’s like Dexter, True Blood, Star Wars and others.

For a current list go to http://www.thehpalliance.org/haiti/prize
s/

This is not an auction!!!!!!  You make a donation and you are entered in a drawing to win the item you have selected. You can read the rules at http://www.thehpalliance.org/haiti/rules.html

You have until Saturday January 30, 2010 at 11:59PM to make your donations.

This is a great opportunity to help a great cause and possibly win some awesome Harry Potter stuff.

*Scene Reenactments- watch a short scene from one of the HP movies and then re-enact it as best you can with your house. You will be judged on both accuracy and creativity.

Hello my fellow wizards! I come in a desperate hour of need.

My name is Jules, aka Kozibot. I'm a costuming fiend from Chicago, and I'm friends with stupid_drawings. She's actually staying with me this week before we head off to Azkatraz in a few days. She's told me wonderful things about you folks and recommended I ask here for help.

My delema that I bring to you folks is that I'll be visiting Atlanta for the first time for Dragon*Con this coming September, but alas my room situation has suddenly gone to pot and I'm currently looking for a place to stay from Thursday morning through Monday morning. If anyone has a bed space or a rollaway that hasn't been claimed, I'd prefer that, but I could always bring an air matress. I've got scoliosis so a soft surface other than the floor is greatly prefered.

If anyone can help, or know of others that have space, by all means let me know! You can comment here or e-mail me at RaverReno at hotmail dot com

I don't know who will be going to midnight showing of HBP at Regal Hollywood 24 but according to Fandango the 12:01 showing is sold out. However they have another showing at 12:15.

15 December 2008 @ 10:58 am
Thanks to everyone who came out last night and made our Christmas Party such a huge success!!

I wanted to get a party calendar started for next year, so I need an idea of who wants to host a party and in which month. April is the only month that been requested so far.

Anybody is welcome to host a party whether you have been to only one party or all of our parties. It doesn’t matter if you live in a house or an apartment because we have had our parties at big spaces and at small spaces, and they have all been fun! Also, my clubhouse (where we have been having most of the parties lately) is available on most Saturdays in all the months except for June, July, and August because the pool is open then. You are welcome to use the clubhouse if you are willing to come a little early to set up and stay a little after the party to clean up.

Don't worry that hosting a party has to be a big undertaking because it doesn't. We have plenty of people here that would be willing to host with you or just help you out...all you have to do is post a request for help.

For the theme of your party and the activities, you can do whatever you wish as long as it is Harry Potter related. We have had people make HP versions of fun games including: HP Taboo, HP Pictionary, HP Cranium, HP Outburst, HP Jeopardy, HP Mad Libs, HP Dating Game, HP Family Feud, etc. We have done HP Dramatic Interpretations, and Dramatic Readings. We have people do HP versions of Party Quirks and Scenes from a Hat from the show "Whose Line Is It Anyway". We have had a Dragon Egg Hunt, Horcrux hunts, and a 2nd Task like activity in the lake. We have had a HP pumpkin carving contest and a HP gingerbread house contest. We wrote our own potions and then voted for the best ones. We have played Harry Potter Scene- It. We have also had many different trivia contests and discussion topics based on the books and movies. So anything HP related that sounds fun to you will be fun at one of our parties. You can have a very broad theme or you could do something more concentrated like having a certain class be the theme and do activities and discussion based on that. Really there are no rules on what you can do as long as it relates to Harry Potter.

Also as host there will be no need for you to shell out lots of money. All our parties are pot luck as far as food goes. We have had people make spaghetti, tacos, etc and have everyone choose a side dish to bring.  We have had hosts order pizza and everyone bring two or three dollars to pay for it. We have had pot luck dinners where everyone brings a dish or dessert. We had an ice cream social where everyone brought ice cream or ice cream toppings. Whatever you want to do for dinner, we will put up the drop box on the Evite for people choose what to bring (including drinks and desserts).

If you are interested in hosting a party, please let me know. You can reply to this post or email me at atlanta_hp@hotmail.com. Thanks!

lupintonks85  and I are starting to put together the Family Feud game for the Christmas Party. It really helps to know how many people are planning to attend the party when making the game. If you haven't rsvped yet, and you know if you can make the party or not, could you please take a moment and RSVP on the Evite. We would really appreciate it!

If you are not on our Evite mailing list and you would like to get more info about this party, email me (Traci) at atlanta_hp@hotmail.com or reply to this post with your email address.

23 November 2008 @ 12:10 pm

I just sent out the Evite for our December Party. Please be aware of the day and time on the Evite because it is different than usual. Originally we were going to do the party on Saturday the 20th, but a family obligation has come up for that weekend. All the other weekends seem to have something planned for Saturday, so we had to change the party to a Sunday. We changed the time to 6pm, so we could get an earlier start since most people have work the next day.

Christmas at Godric's Hollow
Sunday December 14 at 6pm

Join Atlanta HP for a night of HP Holiday fun:
*HP Discussion
* Harry Potter Family Feud- Yes, we have surveyed 100 HP fans!
Now come and see if you can help your "HP family" find the top
answer in each category.
*A "Dirty Sirius" Christmas Gift Exchange-Please bring a small Harry Potter inspired Christmas Gift (no more than $10). We will have a gift exchange, and everyone will leave the party with a fun present. The gift does not have to be official book and/or movie stuff. It could just be inspired by the HP books and/or characters.

If you are not on our Evite mailing list and you would like to get more info about this party, email me (Traci) at atlanta_hp@hotmail.com or reply to this post with your email address.

Since it was a big hit the first time around, lupintonks85 and I are working on a Harry Potter version of Family Feud for Atlanta HP's December Party. We are trying to survey 100 HP fans to get our game's top answers, and we could really use your help. Could you please take 5 minutes and fill out the survey posted below. Just answer each question with what first comes to you mind or your favorite/ person/thing/ event/etc. that fits each question. Even if you can't make the party we could use your help in being one of the 100 people surveyed. You can reply with your answers to this post as I am screening all comments. Thanks! I really appreciate it!!!

Since we used a lot of the most obvious categories the first time around and didn't want to use the same categories again, this version has some questions about the movies and ships.

1) Name a Character in the HP series
2) Name a Favorite Ship (canon or fandom)
3) Name a Pet found in the HP series
4) Name a Ravenclaw
5) Name a Pure Blood Family
6) Name a Actor in the HP Movies
7) Name a Actress in the HP Movies
8) Name a character seen or mentioned in the Epilogue
9) Name someone who fought in the last battle at Hogwarts in DH
10) Name a character that died in DH
11) Name a guest at Bill and Fleur’s wedding
12) Name a muggle found in the HP series
13) Name a potion ingredient
14) Name a Quidditch team
15) Saddest Death in HP series
16) Name a kind of magical creature found in the HP series
17) Name your Favorite Hogwarts House
18) Name a Marauder
19) Name your Favorite Triwizard Champion
20) Name your Favorite Harry Potter Movie
